I Solve Problems. Not Sell Boxes.
Since 1996 · BSD-powered IT infrastructure · Ferrara, Italy
Since 1996, we build and manage IT infrastructure on BSD and Unix systems. We don't chase trends or sell prepackaged solutions. We study your problem, then we solve it - with the simplest technology that actually works.
What We Do
Six things we're good at. All built on open source, all designed to last.
- Server Infrastructure
- FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Linux, illumos. We design, deploy, and manage server infrastructures with secure backups replicated across multiple data centers. Not just uptime - real resilience.
- Virtualization & Jails
- bhyve, FreeBSD Jails, Proxmox. Proper isolation without the overhead. Our BSD-based virtualization consistently uses fewer resources and delivers better I/O than the alternatives.
- ZFS Storage
- Self-healing filesystems, instant snapshots, end-to-end data integrity. ZFS isn't just storage - it's peace of mind. We build systems where recovering from failure is a normal operation, not a crisis.
- Security
- OpenBSD firewalls, PF packet filtering, security-first architecture. Many of our deployments remained unaffected by vulnerabilities that made headlines - because the systems we chose had eliminated those attack surfaces years earlier.
- Email Services
- Self-hosted, open source, replicated in real time. Your email on your infrastructure, or on ours - but always under your control, always with a fallback.
- Training & Conferences
- Practical courses for public institutions and private enterprises. We also speak at international conferences - EuroBSDCon, BSDCan - sharing what we've learned in the field, not from textbooks.
How We Think
Most IT consultants sell products. We solve problems. The difference matters more than it sounds.
"If nothing is working, what am I paying you for? If everything's working, what am I paying you for?"
We believe your data belongs to you - not to a cloud provider who can change their terms, raise their prices, or disappear. We design systems so that your information is always exportable, always migratable, always physically accessible. The only truly secure data is the one you can reach when everything else fails.
We prefer systems that run for years without surprises over systems that need constant attention. Setting up a server is the easy part. Returning to it five years later and still understanding how it works - that's the hard part. We design for that moment.
Why Kubernetes for a simple WordPress website?
Using a lorry to bring a bunch of salad.
Our pricing reflects real work. No certifications markup, no marketing overhead, no artificial complexity to justify higher fees. We choose technologies for their engineering merit, not their vendor relationships. If a simpler solution works, we use the simpler solution.
We value knowledge over credentials. Certifications can be useful, but they often lock you into a single vendor's ecosystem. We'd rather understand the problem deeply and pick the right tool - even if it's not the fashionable one.
Why BSD
We run 78% of our hypervisors and 66% of our workloads on BSD systems. Not out of ideology - out of experience.
FreeBSD
Our workhorse. Native ZFS, mature jails, bhyve virtualization - all integrated from the start, not bolted on as afterthoughts. Our FreeBSD servers consistently outperform comparable Linux setups in I/O throughput and resource efficiency.

OpenBSD
Guards our perimeters. When you need a firewall or a security-critical entry point, nothing matches OpenBSD's engineering. It eliminated entire classes of vulnerabilities years before the rest of the industry even named them.

NetBSD
Runs where others won't. For systems that need a decade of uptime with minimal intervention, NetBSD's conservative approach is unmatched. Some of our installations have been running continuously for over ten years.

Migration in practice
We migrated 20 Proxmox hosts down to 11 by replacing VMs with FreeBSD jails where possible. Operations that took 18 minutes dropped to 6. No downtime, no complaints. Just better performance, lower cost, and simpler management.
- ext4, XFS, and btrfs have all lost us data. ZFS - zero.
- enx3e3300c9e14e at 3 AM vs. ix0. ix0 stays ix0.
- Recent SSH vulnerability? Our OpenBSD hosts were unaffected. The fix was built in 2001.
About Us
Prodottoinrete Group SRL was founded to make the internet a concrete, accessible tool - not a mystery. In June 2019, we merged with Dragas IT, deepening our specialization in BSD-based IT systems. We're based in Ferrara, Italy. We manage infrastructures globally.
The Journey
- 1996 First contact with Linux at 16, via Fidonet. Curiosity about alternative operating systems.
- 1998 University. Linux lab administrator. One of the few students who understood Open Source concepts.
- 2000 First exposure to BSD. Theoretical studies begin.
- 2002 FreeBSD becomes the daily driver. Printed the entire handbook.
- 2003 Final thesis on NetBSD/Xen virtualization. Set the future guidelines: solve problems, don't sell boxes.
- 2003–2019 Freelance. Building the philosophy. 65% BSD, 35% Linux.
- 2019 Merger with Dragas IT. Deepening BSD specialization.
- Today 78% BSD hypervisors, 66% BSD workloads. The migration continues.
Stefano Marinelli
Co-owner & Administrator
I've been working with *BSD and Unix systems since 1996. I'm also the founder and Barista of the BSD Cafe, a community of *BSD enthusiasts on the Fediverse. I specialize in advanced networks, server infrastructure, and open source solutions - with a focus on systems that work reliably and stay out of your way.
Carla Suffritti
Co-owner
My background is in European Languages and Cultures, with a specialization in business communication. I manage relationships with international clients, oversee service quality, and handle the administrative side. When something goes wrong at 3 AM, I'm usually the one who notices first.
